An ecological corridor by the sea
600 m from the apartment · replica of the historic mill

Municipal Natural Site declared a protected area in 2006. It preserves one of the few dune systems left on the Alicante coastline, with embryonic and mobile dunes by the sea and stabilised dunes with Aleppo pine and stone pine inland. It works as an ecological corridor connecting the Natural Park of the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons with the Santa Pola salt flats.

[TO BE VERIFIED: extent — some sources give 17.22 hectares, others "17,000 square metres" — confirm with the Town Hall before publishing the figure]

The mill

A replica of the historic mill that gives the park its name. Some sources describe it as a water mill documented since 1797, linked to one of the few freshwater wells near the coast; others describe it as a replica of a 19th-century windmill used to grind grain and salt.

[TO BE VERIFIED with Torrevieja Town Hall which version is correct — the park's own name, "Molino del Agua" (Water Mill), points to the first]

Beneath the park there are more than 500 metres of underground aquifer galleries, which explains the old well.

Unique wildlife

Home to the endemic beetle Paratriodonta alicantina and the Kentish plover, a protected wading bird that nests in the area — one more reason not to leave the marked paths.

How to visit

On foot: from the main entrance, a path follows a stream to an artificial lake with a several-metre water jet. From there, internal paths lead to the beach's edge.

Recommended route: enter from La Mata beach rather than the Torrevieja access — it keeps the landscape a surprise.

Free guided tours: once a month, about 90 minutes, two time slots (10:00 and 12:00). Sign up via the Torrevieja tourism website.

[TO BE VERIFIED: exact frequency and upcoming dates before publishing]

Night routes in summer: July and August.

A fact from 2009

A fire affected part of the park in 2009.

[TO BE VERIFIED: extent of the damage and current state of the affected area]

Accessibility

The wooden boardwalk stretch that runs the width of the park towards the beach is wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
